Born in 2018, Cantate Deo Youth Orchestra is a Christian youth orchestra run independently by its members, with a mission to revitalise the joy of classical music amongst their own generation.
Starting from fresh roots in an Indonesian church community where classical music appreciation and training was scarce, our orchestra has grown to 22 members, with some picking up instruments from scratch.
Consisting of high school and university students of a diverse range of majors, CDYO’s mission is to bring the joy of classical music back into the lives of ordinary youths around them.

Vision: To redeem music to the glory of God
As Johann Sebastian Bach once said, “The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.” At Cantate Deo, we believe that music is a gift from God, given to us to ultimately praise and honour Him. Our vision is to see all music, whether it by secular or sacred, redeemed to show forth God’s glory. We seek to see music’s beauty reflect His perfect character, its touching of our hearts, a means to draw us to His Word, its complexities, a mirror of His articulate precision, and ultimately its joy, a magnification of His utmost joy in the salvation of His people.

As youth, our mission is firstly to reach out to our own generation. Having paramount impact on the way we think, feel and express ourselves, music is undoubtedly an important aspect of all people’s lives. This question stands, does the music that we listen to, play and sing, glorify God?
Standing behind an abundant legacy left behind by both church and music history which are inevitably intertwined, we hope to reinvigorate the many ways past Christians and musicians presented their craft to the fullest for the glory of God.
Despite being youths who are still learning, through concerts, music development programs and many more, our mission is to inspire our friends and fellow youth to join us on discovering the beauty of music, and its place in God’s creation as a unique gift which ultimately calls us to sing praises to our Lord and God. Our Story
Our story began when three young teenagers sought to combine their musical talent with their love for God. Here they gathered four other young musicians, and this our journey began. What seemed improbable was God using our talents for something more than we believed we could achieve.
